Post Service Recovers in Hard-hit Hubei2012-03-13Heavy rain hit Wuhan, Xianning and other cities in eastern Hubei Province from June 9 to June 10. The amount of rainfall of Chibi, Tongcheng and Chongyang reached its highest of record. The flood and landslides triggered by the torrential rain affected thousands of people, leaving 20 people dead and over 100 injuries.
Torrential rain had a huge effect on the post service in Chibi, Tongcheng, Chongyang and Jiayu. The flood control and disaster relief work in the hard-hit regions is still continuing and has brought the post service of some regions back on track.
The flood cut off the transport and postal service of Tongcheng County, with 14 post offices being flooded. The Shaping Branch of the Chongyang Post Office was submerged on June 10. The water level of the post hall reached one meter, while the water level of the courtyard reached to 1.2 meters. The aid team, organized by Chongyang Post Office, ran to Shaping quickly to save seven trapped officers and 600,000 yuan (US$92,544) in cash.
Hubei Post launched an emergency response plan to guide the post offices around the province to carry out efficient flood prevention measures, paying close attention to the situation of the hard-hit regions. Xianning Post Office established three teams, which respectively focused on mailing, administration, and cooperation to recover the post service as soon as possible.
According to the weather forecast, a new round of heavy rain will hit Hubei Province after June 14th. Hubei Post has made adequate preparations to reduce the loss and to ensure that the post service runs smoothly.
