Postal Workers Celebrate Double Ninth Festival with Elderly
Postal Workers Celebrate Double Ninth Festival with Elderly2012-10-26China Post workers across China celebrated the Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival, with senior citizens on October 23, 2012.
The Double Ninth Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month every year. It is customary on this day for Chinese people to drink chrysanthemum wine and wear the zhuyu plant. Some use the occasion to pay respects to their ancestors.
In 1989, the Chinese government designated the Double Ninth Festival as Senior Citizens Day. Since then, all government units, organizations and communities organize yearly autumn trips for their retired members.
This year, postal workers in Hunan, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces, as well as in Beijing, showed their respect to local senior citizens by celebrating the occasion with them.
