To celebrate the Grand Canal, which has been added into the World Heritage list, a specialized set of stamps and a commemorative envelope were launched recently by the Hangzhou City Post Corporation. The launch ceremony was held in Hangzhou, capital city of east China’s Zhejiang Province on June 23, 2014.

The newly released, specialized set of stamps feature famous calligraphy and painting works displaying 10 scenic spots alongside the Grand Canal.

The decision that China’s Grand Canal, and the Silk Road in China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgizstan were to be added to the World Heritage list was announced at the 38th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage committee in Doha, Qatar on June 22, 2014.

The Grand Canal dates back 2,400 years. With a length of 1,794 kilometers, it’s the longest man-made waterway in the world. And it is still in use. The heritage site consists of five sections of the Grand Canal across six provinces and two municipalities in China, linking Hangzhou to the capital, Beijing.
