|International Women's Day ( March 8 ) is glorious day on the celebration of the struggle of women worldwide for peace and democracy and on the fight for women's liberation. On March 8, 1908, the women in New York, the United States marched through the city demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. In August,1910, the second International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen, Demark. Ms. Clara Zetkin, the German social revolutionary who presided over the conference tabled the idea of an International Women's Day to help women claim for their voting rights. Her proposal was greeted by all the participants of the conference with unanimous approval. |
China's first commemoration of March 8 International Working Women began in Guangzhou in 1924. After New China was founded, the Central People's Government decided in December, 1949 that International Women's Day was marked in China on March 8 every year for all the Chinese women.
China National Philatelic Corporation will issue a FDC and a commemorative cancellation respectively.
