September 3, 2012 marked the 60th anniversary of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province. It is the only autonomous prefecture for the Korean ethnic group and the largest Korean-populated area in China. Over the past 60 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, people of various ethnic groups in Yanbian have made concerted efforts to forge ahead in a pioneering spirit and promote social progress. A new look has been revealed, dramatic changes have taken place in people’s life, and a new stage of ethnic solidarity has begun. Since the introduction of reform and opening-up policies, especially in the last 20 years after the inception of the Tumen River Area Development Program, the prefecture has advanced with the times and achieved leapfrog development. A new socialist Yanbian, with harmony, amenity and prosperity, has emerged, injecting new dynamism to the Chinese land.
China National Philatelic Corporation will issue a FDC and a commemorative cancellation respectively.
