Lei Feng was born Lei Zhengxing in December 1940 into a poor farmer's family in Wangcheng County, Hunan Province. In his childhood, he endured suffering and tribulations of the old society. After the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, he grew up with care from the government. In 1960, he was recruited by the People's Liberation Army. In November of the same year, he joined the Communist Party of China. On August 15, 1962, Lei, then only 22, died in the line of duty. On March 5, 1963, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the inscription, published on People's Daily, "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng." Over the past decades, with the care and support from the central leadership of different generations, various campaigns have been organized throughout the country to learn from the heroic figure. Lei Feng's name has become a household word, and the Lei Feng Spirit has been widely promoted and deeply incorporated into people's mind.

China National Philatelic Corporation will issue two FDCs and a commemorative cancellation respectively.
