The Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (Publicity Department, CCCPC ) shared the noteworthy deeds of Chemi Dorjee with the whole society and awarded him the title of “Role Model of the Times” at a ceremony in Beijing on January 25, 2019.

The awards ceremony shared with the public Chemi Dorjee's noble deeds and read out the Decision of the Publicity Department, CCCPC on Awarding Chemi Dorjee the Title of “Role Model of the Times.”

Chemi Dorjee is a postman of the China Post branch in the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. He is responsible for postal transportation from Garzê to Dege County on the Sichuan-Tibet postal route.

He drives a postal car every day to deliver mail on the snowline postal route with an average altitude of 3,500 meters. He has travelled a total of 1.4 million kilometers in the past thirty years without any accident.

When attacked by gangsters, the strong-willed postal worker guarded the parcels with his life. After sustaining serious injuries, he persisted in doing rehabilitation exercises, and was finally able to return to his post.

Chemi Dorjee delivered mail from all places in China to residents along the snow line postal route. He has made positive contributions to the economic and social development of Tibet, and is praised by local people as the “Happy Envoy of the Snow Line Postal Route.”

In recent years, his noble deeds have been met with great applause from Chinese society after they became known. Most Chinese believe that Chemi Dorjee is an outstanding representative of the front-line workers at the grass-roots level, a role model for safeguarding the unity of ethnic nations, and someone who champions a better life.

“We should study and implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, follow the example of ’Role Model of the Times’ and take Chemi Dorjee as an example, striving forward with a more vigorous spirit and attitude of struggle, and contributing to the unity of the Chinese nation and development of the country,” representatives of front-line workers and Party members and cadres in ethnic areas said at the event.

The Publicity Department of the CCCPC awarded medals and certificates to Chemi Dorjee, who has been named “Role Model of the Times” at the event.

The ceremony also featured representatives from the State Post Bureau of the People's Republic of China, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC), etc.
