Yang Quanzhong, a postal driver at the Central Office of Xining Postal District in northwest China's Qinghai province, was recently elected as one of the “Top Ten Model Freight Car Drivers” by experts tasked with the selection of model freight drivers. Meanwhile, Zhang Xinghua, another postal driver at the office, was elected as the Model Freight Car Driver.

The Advanced Deeds Report of the Model Truck Drivers meeting was held in Beijing on February 22, 2019.

Prior to the meeting, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Ministry of Transport Yang Chuantang and Minister of Transport Li Xiaopeng met with the top ten model truck drivers, and congratulated them. The two leaders also extended warm greetings to the majority of drivers in the national freight industry.

Liu Xiaoming, vice-minister of transport, attended the meeting. He called upon to strengthen the structural reform of the transportation industry, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the freight industry, improve the sense of satisfaction and security of the freight drivers, and vigorously promote the spirit of struggle, developing China into a powerful country in transportation.

The selection of model freight drivers was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Public Security and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

It aimed to discover and publicize the advanced deeds of truck drivers, promote the spirit of model workers, enhance the sense of honor of truck drivers and gradually develop a society that cares for the welfare of its truck drivers.

The campaign was launched in April 2018. More than 300 truck drivers participated in the event. The procedures included the organizing committee’s examination, experts’ preliminary evaluations, public displays, online voting and a final selection by experts. Ninety-six of the candidates were finally selected as model truck drivers, and ten as the top model truck drivers. The Communications Department of Zhejiang Province and another 11 units were selected as organizational contributors.

Related leaders of the Ministry of Transport and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions attended the meeting and awarded certificates to the winners of the model freight car drivers. Also, Yang Quanzhong gave a speech as a representative of the award winners at the meeting.
