At 10:05 July 10, the Urumqi-Beijing postal train Z180 loaded with over 600 mailbags arrived at Beijing West Railway Station. Thus, the Urumqi-Beijing trunk line railway postal route restored service after having been halted for 4 years due to underbody update. The postal train now adopts model 25T underbody with maximum speed of 160 km/h and the total travel time of 38 hours. With the opening of the postal rail route, mail transport time from North China and Northeast China to Xinjiang is reduced by 1-2 days. The postal route is escorted by personnel from the Mail Processing Center of Urumqi postal district (hereafter referred to as Urumqi Mail Center). The leaders from the Parcel, Express and Logistics Business Unit of China Post Group appeared on the platform of Beijing West Railway Station to meet the freight clerks executing the escort mission.
According to the freight clerks, the launch ceremony of the trunk line Urumqi-Beijing Z180 postal route was held at Platform No. 1 of Urumqi Railway Station at 19:25 July 8. The head of Beijing No. 1 railway escort squad of Urumqi Mail Center asked for instructions to start the mission. When permission was granted, 2 freight clerks boarded the postal train to start the escort work. A vice president of the Parcel, Express and Logistics department of Xinjiang Postal Branch, and general manager of Urumqi Mail Center, also went to Beijing on the same train to carry out field research on the postal route.
Travelling a total distance of 3404 km, the postal train carries mail of all kinds from Urumqi and Hami, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, addressed to major cities in North and Northeast China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Tangshan, Langfang, Hohhot, Baotou, Shenyang, Jinzhou, Dalian, Changchun and Harbin, with a hand-over of confidential correspondence at Hami. The opening of the postal route has provided a new channel for ensuring the rapid mail transport from Xinjiang to North China, Northeast China and even the whole country, and meeting the needs of Party and government organs of the autonomous region, military troops stationed in Xinjiang, enterprises and public institutions as well as people of different ethnic groups in the whole region for mail service.
To insure the opening of the postal route, Urumqi Mail Center has everything well prepared for railway postal transport, with the office facilities in the train compartments equipped according to the new standards. Collaborating with the Mail Center of Beijing postal district, it has made arrangements for the accommodation of the freight clerks and other related matters. To lay a good foundation for the smooth opening of the postal route, Urumqi Mail Center has reorganized escort squads, and carried out centralized training on corporate regulations, lodging management, postal transport disciplines and confidential correspondence hand-over plans, which has enabled the freight clerks who would re-execute mail escort mission on the train after a 4-year interval to enter the work state in advance.
