Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently made an instruction on honoring and promoting the role models of dedication. He paid tribute to the deceased role models, expressed warm congratulations to the awarded role models and extended sincere greetings to their families.
Xi underscored the importance of honoring the heroes and role models who had emerged since the founding of the People's Republic of China as its 70th anniversary is being celebrated.
Xi said generations of people have persistently struggled in the course of China's socialist revolution, construction and reform, and many have emerged as heroes and role models. With their wisdom, sweat and even their lives, the heroes and role models in different historical periods have written a magnificent chapter for the country's prosperity, national rejuvenation and people’s happiness. They all deserve our respect, he stressed.
Xi also demanded extensive efforts in promoting the deeds of the heroes and role models, carrying forward their spirit of patriotism and tireless struggle, and inspiring the Party and all Chinese people with their touching stories to pool spiritual strength for the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The award ceremony was held in Beijing on the morning of Sept. 25. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, met with representatives of those who were honored at the event and their families. A total of 278 individuals and 22 groups were awarded the title of role models of dedication.
Chemi Dorjee (Tibetan), a mail truck driver of Ganzi County Postal Subbranch of Sichuan Province of China Post Group, and Wang Shunyou, a mail carrier of Muli Tibetan Autonomous County Postal Subbranch of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, were awarded the title of role models of dedication. Chemi Dorjee, as one of the eight speakers, made a speech entitled "Carry forward the Spirit of Struggle, Lighten up the Happy Life".
