On December 2, the 2019 China Post Exchange Conference on Science and Technology Innovation opened in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Zhang Ronglin, Vice President of China Post Group, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Zhang Ronglin pointed out that during this year's "Double 11" period, China Post adopted small package collective processing mode and the technological process of matrix sortation plus small package sorter, which greatly improved the processing capacity of the whole network, with daily processing capacity up to 76.8 million pieces per day. China Post's principle of "no mail rejection, no volume restriction, no mail backlog, and no warehouse congestion" was effectively implemented so that new contributions were made to improve the competitiveness of the delivery business.

He stressed that in order to build China Post into the "national team" of the industry, it must rely on scientific and technological innovation, vigorously promote scientific and technological empowerment, and guarantee the capability for high-quality development. Postal enterprises should take the opportunity of this exchange conference to push the in-depth work of scientific and technological innovation, keep long-lasting innovation exchange, and further implement the innovation-driven development strategy. The Internet, the Internet of things, 5G, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other forward-looking technologies should be made use of to accelerate service innovation, product innovation and business model innovation. Focus should be placed on the frontiers of global technological innovation to speed up the R&D and promotion of technological applications such as smart post, and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional postal services and add vitality to them. The system and mechanism of scientific and technological innovation should be further improved to vigorously publicize the good deeds of excellent scientific and technological personnel, carry forward the spirit of seeking truth, being practical, being brave in innovation, and making selfless dedication. The vast number of postal employees should be mobilized to actively participate in the mass entrepreneurship and innovation activities, making new progress for China Post's scientific and technological innovation work, and strive to make China Post better and stronger and build it into the "national team" of China’s postal industry.

With the theme of "integration of industry and technology, and technology empowerment", the 2019 China Post Exchange Conference on Science and Technology Innovation included activities like awarding ceremony, forums and lectures, exhibitions and online communication, etc. At the conference, 38 units, including Postal Science Research and Planning Institute, China Post Technology, China Post Group Information Technology Co., Ltd., Shijiazhuang Posts and Telecommunications Technical College and postal branches of each province, exhibited nearly 400 scientific and technological achievements, fully reflecting the fruits of grass-roots scientific and technological innovation of postal enterprises, which built a platform for grass-roots postal enterprises to exchange scientific and technological achievements.

The exchange conference included five sub forums, concerning smart postal network, intelligent operation management, 5G and IoT application, smart technology application and so on. Experts at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation outside the industry and famous scholars in the field of scientific research were invited to the forums to offer suggestions and add new energy to the further innovation and development of China Post’s postal service and delivery sectors.
