Express items in China have reached 50 billion on September 10, 2020, according to the real-time data of the Postal Industry Security Supervision Information System of the State Post Bureau. It takes the express business only eight months to reach 50 billion items this year, which shows not only the vitality of China's express industry, but also the great resilience and potential of China's economic development.  

This year, China's postal and express industry had a weak start then recovered steadily. Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the national express business volume remained low in January, but it recovered rapidly in February, and saw a positive growth. In the second quarter, the growth rate of express business accelerated significantly with the continuous promotion of resumption of work and production, going back to more than 30%. In particular, the growth rate of national express business volume in May exceeded 40%, which recorded a new high since February 2018. At present, the postal and express industry has basically overcome the impact of the epidemic, handling an average of more than 200 million items each day and serving over 400 million customers per day, which further highlights their prominent role in serving the people's livelihood.

Successful shifting off the influence of the epidemic and changing from negative to positive development and returning to develop at a high level of the postal and express industry derives not only from its rapid resumption of production, also from the integrated development of online and offline consumption market. As the most important delivery channel of online consumption, the rapid development of e-commerce has become the main driving force for express business growth. At the same time, the fast growth of consumption market in the third and fourth tier cities and rural areas also contribute to the massive expansion of express industry market while the consumers enjoy economical online purchasing service.

It’s predicted that the annual express business volume will exceed 75 billion pieces in 2020. An official of State Post Bureau said, China’s postal and express industry will continue to follow the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the instructions on postal and express industry made by General Secretary Xi Jinping, further strengthen the sense of responsibility, urgency and mission, further improve the political stance, further intensify the analysis, and do well in the work of stability on the six fronts (employment, financial sector, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment, and expectations) and security in the six areas (job security, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments), coordinate regular epidemic control and the reform and development of the industry, sparing no effort to complete the objectives and tasks of this year.
