| China Post |2020-09-21

On September 19, China Post issued the commemorative stamps Modern Chinese Scientists (Series 8). On the morning of September 19, sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as CAST) and China Post Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Post Group), and co-organized by the Department of Research and Publicity of CAST and Beijing Branch of China Post Group, the first-issue ceremony was held in China Hall of Science and Technology.

At the ceremony, Xu Yanhao, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group, Vice President and Executive Secretary of CAST, and Guo Chenglin, member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Chief Accountant of China Post Group, jointly unveiled the commemorative stamps.

Xu Yanhao said in his speech that scientific achievements are inseparable from spiritual support. Displaying the images of China's outstanding scientists on the national business card—stamps is of great significance for popularizing the science masters to the public, integrating science and culture into the development of China, and enabling the spirit of scientists to shine in the era. He hopes that science and technology workers should take the four selected scientists as examples, carry forward the fine traditions, bolster innovation confidence, strengthen their readiness to shoulder responsibility, and make new and greater contributions to the realization of the two centenary goals and the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

Guo Chenglin stated that China Post strives to fulfill the responsibilities and obligations of a State-owned enterprise in advancing socialist cultural-ethical progress, making full use of stamps as a special cultural carrier to reflect the achievements China has made in all aspects of construction and the happy life enjoyed by Chinese people in the new era. China Post has issued these series of commemorative stamps to pay tribute to the older generations of scientists and all science workers, whose quality of diligence, immunity to pretense and fortune and faith in their original aspirations will go down in history and remain in the hearts of the Chinese people forever.

After that, Guo Zhe, Director General of the Department of Research and Publicity of CAST, and Xu Maojun, General Manager of the Beijing branch of China Post Group, together unveiled the first day cover of the Modern Chinese Scientists (Series 8) commemorative stamps.

The Modern Chinese Scientists (Series 8) issued this time consists of a set of 4 commemorative stamps, portraying 4 scientists: the applied opticist Wang Daheng, the solid-state physicist and semiconductor physicist Huang Kun, the nuclear physicist Yu Min and the mathematician Chen Jingrun. Designed with realistic sketch technique and printed with engraved intaglio technology, this set of stamps vividly and meticulously portray the classic images of the four scientists, and present their research interests and achievements. Previously, 34 Chinese Scientists, including the geologist Li Siguang and the meteorologist and geographer Zhu Kezhen, have appeared on the other 7 series of the Modern Chinese Scientists commemorative stamps.
