State Post Bureau announces postal industry performance in October 2020

On November 13, the State Post Bureau announced the performance of the postal industry in October 2020. From January to October, the revenue of the postal industry (excluding the direct operating income of the Postal Savings Bank of China) reached 879.62 billion yuan (about 133.7 billion US dollars), up by 14.2% year-on-year. The total business turnover of the postal industry reached 1633.64 billion yuan (about 248.15 billion US dollars), up by 28.4% year-on-year.

The revenue of the postal industry totaled 97.93 billion yuan (about 14.88 billion US dollars) in October, up by 19.2% year-on-year. And the total business turnover reached 204.47 billion yuan (about 31.06 billion US dollars), up by 38.8% year-on-year.  

From January to October, the turnover of postal service business totaled 228.20 billion yuan (about 34.67 billion US dollars), up by 13.9% year-on-year, of which the value in October reached 23.12 billion yuan (about 3.51 billion US dollars), up by 2.6% year-on-year.  

From January to October, the express enterprises across the country handled 64.38 billion items with a total of 690.98 billion yuan (about 104.96 billion US dollars) in revenue, increasing respectively by 29.6% and 16.5% year-on-year. Among them, the intra-city business reached 9.85 billion items, up by 12.2% year-on-year. The inter-city business volume reached 53.1 billion items, up by 33.6% year-on-year. The international business volume and the business volume of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan reached 1.43 billion pieces, up by 26.3% year-on-year.

In October, the express enterprises nationwide handled 8.23 billion items and totaled 81.1 billion yuan (about 12.32 billion US dollars) in revenue, increasing respectively by 43% and 23.3% year-on-year. 

From January to October, intra-city, inter-city, international business volume and the business volume of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan respectively accounted for 15.3%, 82.5%, and 2.2% of all express business, with business revenue accounting for 9%, 51.5% and 12.1% of all express delivery revenue respectively. In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the intra-city express delivery volume decreased by 2.4%, the inter-city express delivery volume increased by 2.5%, and the international express delivery volume and the express delivery volume of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan decreased by 0.1%.

From January to October, the proportion of express delivery volume in the eastern, central and western regions was 79.6%, 13.1% and 7.3% respectively. In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the proportion of express delivery volume went down by 0.2% in the eastern region, up by 0.4% in the central region, and down by 0.2% in the western region.
