The Spring Festival of the Year of the Ox is arriving. On behalf of the Leading Party Members’ Group of China Post Group Corporation Limited, I would like to extend my festive greetings and best wishes to the CPC Central Committee, ministries as well as all sectors of the society who care about and support the development of postal industry, and to all active and retired postal staff and their families. I’d also like to express my sincere solicitude to our postal staff who are still working during the festival. Thank you for your dedication!

Looking back on the extraordinary year of 2020, we braved the pandemic and forged ahead against all odds, with every figure carrying the original aspiration of serving the people, every step interpreting the mission of innovation and development, and every footprint engraved with the passion of hard work. We followed the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implemented the decisions of the CPC Central Committee, and adopted a balanced approach to pandemic response and business development. We deepened reform and innovation, accelerated transformation and upgrading, tamped the cornerstone of the “four girders and eight pillars (four girders—universal services, financial services, delivery services and rural ecommerce; eight pillars—Party building, transformation, technology empowerment, flat management, platform, synergy, vitality and work style)”, and laid a solid foundation for the development of the “national team” of postal industry. Every staff member of China Post is marvelous!

The past year was a year when we made new accomplishments in fulfilling the responsibilities of enterprises directly under the central government. Confronting the once-in-a-century pandemic, we actively served the overall interests of pandemic containment. With the Leading Party Members’ Group of China Post Group making unified instructions and careful plans, postal companies of all levels responding swiftly to the instructions and taking active moves, all CPC members rushing voluntarily to the frontline, the primary-level staff heading bravely for the frontline against the virus, we thereby gave full play to the role of the forerunner, main force and national team, and delivered anti-virus answers that can stand the test of time and people. We contributed to the three critical battles against poverty, pollution and potential risks: surpassed the poverty alleviation goal assigned to China Post, made solid progress in the development of green post, and held fast to the bottom line for major risks, thereby conscientiously shouldering its responsibilities as an enterprise directly under the central government.

The past year was a year when we made new breakthroughs in improving the quality and performance of development. In the face of the profound changes in global, national and industrial conditions, we overcame difficulties, pursued development, and boost the operation and development of the whole group to maintain a good momentum. We generated a revenue of 665.561 billion yuan (about 103.229 billion US dollars), increasing by 7.83%; gained a profit of 60.55 billion yuan (about 9.39 billion US dollars), increasing by 12.36%; and ranked the top 100 among the Fortune Global 500 companies for the first time. We worked hard, daringly and pragmatically to accelerate the development of all businesses: the quality of our universal postal service reached the standards in an all-round way; the structural adjustment of our financial services made outstanding achievements; the competitiveness of our parcel, express and logistics business was rapidly improved; the development of our rural e-commerce was solidly boosted, and our synergy strategy was effectively implemented.

The past year was a year when we made new achievements in deepening reform and innovation. In the face of the arduous reform and innovation tasks, we took swift but steady steps and moved ahead with full force: the implementation of the three-year action plan for SOE reform was accelerated; major breakthroughs were achieved in the top-level design of the aspects related to the long-term development of China Post, such as digital currency, direct bank, logistics funds, cooperation that benefit farmers, and integrated Customs clearance for international mails, international express and cross-border ecommerce services; thereby laying a solid foundation for the sustainable and sound development of China Post. We tackled difficult problems concerning our main businesses: our postal outlets and channels achieved remarkable effects of transformation; Postal Savings Bank of China sped up its transformation towards featured, comprehensive, light, intelligent and centralized services; China Post Science and Technology Company Limited succeeded in introducing strategic investors and mixed ownership reform; our parcel, express and logistics business sought gaps and set examples from the three perspectives of “customer, competition and industry best”, and promoted reform and pursued innovation with the three laws of industry, market and value”; significant effects were accomplished in the development of the four databases of time limit, cost, market and service, which accumulated strong momentum for the high-quality development of key businesses.

The past year was also a year when we took on a new image in improving the quality of Party building. In the face of the general requirements for strengthening our Party for the new era, we kept arming ourselves with theory, and took a clear-cut political stand. We continually deepened and consolidated the fruits of the CPC education campaign themed "staying true to our founding mission", made solid progress in improving Party conduct and combating corruption, conducted discipline inspection work with high efficiency and high quality, and conscientiously improved our work style. As a result, a good atmosphere of seeking truth and pragmatism was further formed, and the role of Party building in leading development was further strengthened.

Steering our boat with confidence and high morale, we’ll set sail for a new journey. The year 2021 is of special significance in the modernization process of China, and marks the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) for China Post. We need to maintain a higher spirit and do our own part so that we can race against time, keep pace with the new era, and move forward towards our goals. We will carry out work based on the new development stage, stick to the new development philosophy and integrate into the new development paradigm. Taking the implementation of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the three-year action plan for SOE reform as the main task, the high-quality development as the focal point, the reform and innovation as the fundamental driving force, we will remain sensitive to changes, respond to them with well-judged actions, be ready to adjust the approach when necessary, and try to identify and seize opportunities in the changes. We will foster our strengths with the high-standard market system, and go all out to build China Post’s strategic framework of the “four girders and eight pillars” for the purpose of shaping a new postal service. We will make utmost efforts to boost transformation to improve quality and efficiency, engage in reform to unleash the vitality, underpin science and technology to enhance our competence, implement policies to ensure the imperatives, and strengthen Party building efforts to improve our work style. In this way, we will converge powerful synergy to push ahead with the second rise of China Post.

The road ahead is long; striving is the only way forward. Let’s rally more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, carry forward the spirit of the ox in serving the people, driving innovative development and working tirelessly, strive to size up the situation and accumulate strengths, try to move proactively to adapt to changes, and spare no effort to undertake our responsibilities and deliver real outcomes, so as to mark the CPC’s centenary with outstanding achievements and make new and greater contributions to fully building a modern socialist country and realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation!
