China Post is to issue a set of commemorative stamp (1 piece) entitled Xiamen University Centenary Celebration on April 6, 2021. The denomination of this stamp is 1.20 yuan.
Xiamen University, established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. It has also been listed among China’s leading universities on the national 211 Project and 985 Project. Inspired by the motto “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection” over the past century, Xiamen University has accumulated rich experience and formed a distinctive feature in running the university. With a strong team of faculty and a complete range of disciplines, Xiamen University has become a first-class comprehensive university in China with extensive international influence.
Taking the Qunxian Complex—one of Xiamen University’s iconic buildings as the main body, and with elements such as the emblem of the university, Jiannan Auditorium and ocean waves included, this set of stamp is designed through computer painting, in rhombus shape, and with the features of rigorous composition, clear layers and elegant hues, fully demonstrating the profound historical heritage, vigorous atmosphere of the times and strong regional characteristics of Xiamen University. The layout 1 of the stamp sheet, drawing on the shape of the traditional Chinese knot, is designed in axisymmetric form, and presents the Qunxian Complex, the university motto and the centenary celebration symbol in silhouettes to give the overall picture a sense of order and rhythm.
This set of stamp is designed by designer Shi Yuan and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House with two-color engraving technology. Under fluorescent lights, the motto of Xiamen University can be seen surrounded by the flame tree blossoms, appearing vividly on the stamp.
This set of stamp will be available for 6 months at designated postal outlets, China Post online mall for philatelic products, China Post mobile App and the Wechat Mall for philatelic products in China Post’s WeChat Post Office.
To present more information about the stamp, China Post will release its additional digital contents through the WeChat mini program “Encyclopedia of China Philately and Stamps”, so that viewers can watch the videos by scanning the design of the stamp with the AR function of the mini program, participate in interesting interactions, and have opportunities to get wonderful gifts while experiencing the culture of postage stamps.
