| China Post |2021-05-30

Wang Shunyou, the faithful postman of China Post and outstanding CPC member who ran on the horseback mail route for many years, died of illness at age 56 on May 30, 2021, in Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

Wang Shunyou was born into a family of the Miao ethnic group in Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, Sichuan Province in November 1965, and joined the Communist Party of China in October 2004. In October 1985, he took the job as a postman delivering mail on the "horseback mail route" from the county town of Muli to the townships of Baidiao, Sanjiaoya and Luobo. He worked on this route for 32 years, traveling a total of 260,000 kilometers on the snow-covered plateau alone with one horse along this single route. Also because of his 100% delivery accuracy rate, he became the warmest image among the local people and earned himself the reputation as the "messenger in the remote mountains".

For his dedication to work, Wang Shunyou had been awarded the National May 1st Labor Medal, and honored as the National Role Model Worker, National Outstanding Party Member and National Ethical Role Model successively. In 2009, he was selected as one of the 100 China's inspirational role models since the founding of new China. In 2012, he was elected as the representative of the 18th CPC National Congress. In 2019, he won the title of “the most beautiful striver” at the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
