UPU praises China-Europe Railway Express "China Post" special train for making important contributions
| China Post |2021-07-12

On July 7, the UPU official website released a report on China-Europe Railway Express. In the report, UPU Transport Programme Manager, Ján Bojnansky, affirmed the important role of China-Europe Railway Express during the pandemic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic when air transportation was suspended due to global lockdowns, the import and export logistics of the international supply chain were seriously impeded. China-Europe Railway Express has played an important role in ensuring the safe and smooth flow of logistics and transportation between China and Europe.

In April 2020, China-Europe Railway Express (Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe) “China Post” special train departed from Chongqing for Lithuania, unclogging the “main artery” of international logistics and making every effort to ensure the safe and smooth operation of logistics between China and Europe.

UPU Transport Programme Manager, Ján Bojnansky explained,“The route handles an average of 5-6 containers per week, with a total weight of 120-170 tons per month. This project highlights the fact that rail transport of international mail is a viable solution for UPU member countries, and the current experiences could also guide duplication in other parts of the world. The speed of the trains has been on the rise and the transit time has reduced, which will in turn attract more volumes to this mode of transport. ”

Furthermore, the proposed piloting of CARDIT/RESDIT exchanges between the postal EMS and rail carriers received positive feedback from participants in a session of UPU-Rail Forum 2021 held on June 9. Pilots are expected to be carried out in late 2021 or early 2022. And the meeting will further promote the development of China to Europe rail delivery project.

Up to now, the cumulative number of China-Europe block trains has exceeded 40,000, and 73 operating routes have been opened, reaching more than 160 cities in 22 European countries.
