On July 23, a theme post office at the birthplace of the Communist Party of China (CPC, hereafter, in some cases, shortened to the Party) was officially opened, marking the 100th anniversary of the First Session of the First National Congress of the CPC. The theme post office was jointly established by the Memorial for the First National Congress of the CPC and Shanghai Postal Branch. Such commemorative philatelic products as a commemorative postmark and a souvenir cover bearing words the CPC Birthplace Post Office were released. Other cultural and creative products were also unveiled on the same day.
Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, China Post has issued a number of stamps with the drawings of the site of the First Congress of CPC, which serve as a National Name Card, a unique cultural symbol to remind people of the original aspiration and glory of the Party. Longmenlu Post Office, which is the closest to the site of the First Congress, started to use the site of the First Congress of the CPC on its landscape date mark as early as 1997. In addition, souvenir covers, postcards, commemorative postmarks and other products related to the site of the First Congress have also been well received by all sectors of the society.
Adhering to the belief and intention of "making good use of the revolutionary resources and carrying forward the revolutionary tradition", both parties, the memorial and Shanghai Postal Branch, have agreed to single out Longmenlu Post Office as the site of the theme post office, so that people who come from afar to visit the place of the original aspiration can touch and feel this glory and mission from a close distance. Here, Shanghai citizens and tourists can not only buy a variety of cultural and creative products, but also participate in a series of theme activities, such as organized Party members’ activities, Youth League members’ activities, and Party lessons on revolutionary themed philately, etc., to refuel for the ideal, carry forward the great founding spirit of the Party, inherit the red gene of the postal service, and spread the red culture.
Many citizens who queued to buy philatelic products, cultural and creative products, such as souvenir covers, said that the establishment of the theme post office will function as another base to understand and spread the great founding spirit of the Party, enabling the spiritual epic of Chinese Communists to be handed down from generation to generation.
