Recently, Guangdong Postal Branch has opened a temporary postal route, which greatly eases the problem of outbound international mail transportation for Macao Post affected by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Guangxi Postal Branch has also opened a temporary sea route to transport international mails, which has an obvious effect on ensuring the transportation capacity of international outbound mails.
Affected by the global epidemic situation, the international air routes of the Macao Special Administrative Region have recently been suspended, and Macao local mails cannot be shipped out in time. In order to avoid the interruption of postal routes and ensure the needs of Macao compatriots, Guangzhou Customs, Guangdong Postal Branch and Macao Post have jointly built a mail transfer platform, which relies on the integrated postal logistics system to transit Macao’s mails to Japan, South Korea, the United States, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Through the model, the normal operation of Macao's international postal routes has been ensured. At present, about 400kg of Macao international mails is shipped from Guangzhou to foreign countries every day. In the next step, Guangdong Postal Branch will continue to make use of the “One-stop Customs Clearance” to handle the Macao e-EMS inbound items, and actively facilitate the mailing needs of anti-epidemic materials for Macao compatriots.
In response to the demand for international mail delivery during the epidemic prevention period, Guangxi Postal Branch previously opened an international land transportation postal route from Nanning via Friendship Pass in Pingxiang to the airports in Hanoi, Vietnam, and in Bangkok, Thailand. However, with the spread of the epidemic, Vietnam, Thailand and other Southeast Asian international flights were suspended on a large scale, so the outward transportation capacity of the above-mentioned airports was reduced, which also affected international mail transportation. Thus, with the support of the customs, on March 24, Guangxi Postal Branch opened a temporary sea postal route for forwarding outgoing international mails. In this way, international mails are transported from Nanning to Qinzhou Port by road, then to Singapore by international ship for transshipment to European and American countries. As of April 13, 9341 bags of international mail have been transported on the temporary sea mail route, totaling 141.7 tons.
