Recently, the customs surveillance site in Inner Mongolia Postal Branch officially launched integrated customs clearance for international mail, inbound commercial express and outbound cross-border e-commerce items. The site passed the acceptance check of Hohhot Customs District and was put into use on June 4, 2020, and was upgraded subsequently. By the end of 2022, it had an average daily processing volume of more than 1,800 inbound and outbound international mail and outbound cross-border e-commerce items. In 2023, when handling the three different services simultaneously, it is expected that a million pieces will be cleared by the customs, enabling the throughput of inbound and outbound goods and mail items to reach more than 800 tonnes.

Inner Mongolia Postal Branch has upgraded and optimized the customs surveillance site three times with the support of China Post Group, the People's Government of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Management Committee of Horinger New Area, where the site is located, and Hohhot Customs District. The site consists of different functional areas including operation area for cross-border items, release area for the supervised mail items, customs offices and so on. Four inspection lines connect sorting with customs supervision so that the goods can undergo operations such as security check, supervision, examination and release on the lines with automated operation in the whole process. Meanwhile, the information of the goods is transmitted to the customs department in real time through the system to achieve transparent supervision.

Since October 2019, both the People’s Government of Hohhot and the Management Committee of Horinger New Area have set up special funds, totaling 208.39 million yuan (about 30.65 million US dollars), for cross-border e-commerce development, to support cross-border e-commerce enterprises across the country to register and operate in Hohhot. As the main participant and channel of cross-border e-commerce in the autonomous region, Inner Mongolia Postal Branch has sent its specialized marketing teams to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing and other places several times to contact with large cross-border e-commerce enterprises and successfully introduced 8 companies to Hohhot.
