Shandong Postal Branch stands out in China’s digital transformation cases

Recently, the digital transformation case jointly developed by Shandong Postal Branch and China Telecom Shandong Branch was successfully shortlisted for the 2023 Excellent Digital Transformation Cases in China at the 17th (2023) China Info-port Harbor Forum and the First Digital Transformation Summit Forum held in Qingdao, Shandong province. Its substantial strength is conducive to ushering in a new prospect for digital postal service in Shandong.

Shandong Postal Branch and China Telecom Shandong Branch jointly established Shandong Posts and Telecommunications Digital Intelligence Innovation Studio. Based on technologies that integrate the cloud and the internet such as AI, China Telecom Cloud and visual networking, they have carried out innovative research on and all-scenario business diagnosis of the following pain points: increased transportation costs and carbon emission caused by low loading rate of trucks; weakened supervision resulting from video surveillance which relied on human patrols; service quality lowered by high loss and damage rate.

By installing an AI smart supervision system, the two parties can conduct real-time monitoring and data analysis of the trucks’ loads, and carry out accurate assessment and overall management of the loading rates, thus improving the truck load utilization rate. Through intelligent analysis and processing of the surveillance videos with artificial intelligence algorithms, they can timely identify and address the problems in the process of production, and therefore improve productivity and service quality and ensure workplace safety. By establishing a whole-process tracking system with the integration of big data, the internet of things, artificial intelligence and other technologies, they make it possible to conduct overall management of mail and other items, ensure transportation safety, improve logistics service quality, and reduce the loss and damage rate of the items. As a result, such joint innovation may help realize digital and intelligent transformation for mail delivery service, and facilitate Shandong Postal Branch to construct a new model of green development, thereby ensuring cost reduction and efficiency increase, and eventually promoting the implementation of the “Dual Carbon” strategy.
