October 23, 2023 marked the 5th anniversary of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HZM) Bridge. Thanks to the convenience brought by the HZM Bridge, the volumes of the outbound mail from Zhuhai, Guangdong, to Hong Kong by land mail route saw double-digit growth from January to September this year. Operating for over three years, this mail route has transported nearly 4 million outbound international mail items via the HZM Bridge.

At Zhuhai International Mail Office of Exchange, a batch of mail sent by a company in Zhuhai to Russia was being sorted and prepared for dispatch at 13 o’clock, and finished customs inspection, loading and container sealing at 15 o’clock on 20 October. “The mail will leave for Hong Kong International Airport on the same day via the HZM Bridge, it will then be flown to Russia by cargo flight, and the whole process from pickup to delivery takes only a week.” But before the opening of the HZM Bridge, the same process with the same type of mail would take more than 15 days, according to an on-site employee. Nowadays, it is owing to the HZM Bridge mail route that customers can enjoy faster and more convenient high-quality mail services.

The first land mail route from Zhuhai to Hong Kong via the HZM Bridge opened on September 3, 2020, the outbound cross-border e-commerce mail from Zhuhai could then be directly dispatched and exported, which could shorten the time limit by at least 24 hours compared with that of the mail transited previously via Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Hong Kong for export purpose, marking another solid step forward for Zhuhai Postal Branch to integrate itself into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. On November 20, 2020, the first batch of mail declared by Zhuhai Postal Branch for cross-border trade e-commerce export was successfully shipped via the Zhuhai-Hong Kong land mail route across the HZM Bridge, and flown directly to the United States from Hong Kong.

In order to deal with the continuously growing cross-border mail and express services with the advantages of the HZM Bridge as an economic and trade channel, Zhuhai Postal Branch is upgrading Zhuhai International Mail Office of Exchange and optimizing the supervision means and intelligent sorting machines in the premises. Meanwhile, Zhuhai International Mail Office of Exchange will be built into a comprehensive service park for cross-border e-commerce of Zhuhai Postal Branch, so that it can meet customers’ needs for better international mail service and boost local economic development.
