From November 10, 2023, when the Hunchun- Makhalino (from Hunchun, Jilin province to Makhalino, Russia) special postal train was officially launched, to January 2, 2024, Jilin Postal Branch dispatched 198,600 mail items to Russia by highway and railway, generating international business revenue of 8.0278 million yuan (about 1.121 million US dollars), and its Russia-bound business volume grew rapidly. This marks the regular operation of the Hunchun-Makhalino special postal train between China and Russia.

Since the official operation of the Hunchun Office of Exchange on September 21, 2023, Jilin Postal Branch has launched the Hunchun-Makhalino special postal train after communication and coordination with relevant authorities. The first train loaded with 13,150 pieces of goods, with the weight of 10 tonnes and a total value of nearly two million yuan (about 0.28 million US dollars), departed from Hunchun, Jilin province, for Vladivostok, Russia.

Hunchun-Makhalino railway is one of the crucial cross-border channels for China to implement the Belt and Road Initiative. Jilin Postal Branch has actively seized the development opportunities, and fully leveraged the unique geographical advantages of Hunchun city to effectively integrate itself into the development of port economy. The opening and operation of the Russia-bound railway postal route on the basis of the highway postal routes in that direction can help cross-border e-commerce enterprises effectively save the costs of logistics and time, and at the same time provide a new international logistics channel for cross-border e-commerce goods and packages weighing less than 350 grams to go abroad and reach the entire territory of Russia, thus forming a new pattern of international logistics network which integrates highways, railways and aviation.
