Recently, Jiangsu Postal Branch succeeded in deploying an unmanned vehicle, a groundbreaking innovation among postal branches nationwide, for short haul mail transportation in Suzhou Mail Center. This initiative has significantly boosted efficiency of mail processing and achieved notable results in terms of cost control.

The application of the unmanned vehicle has greatly enhanced transportation flexibility. This vehicle is able to shuttle freely through buildings and different floors within the same building, avoiding the operation constraints of human drivers in confined spaces and complex environments. Consequently, it can significantly reduce safety risks. With five cubic meters of cargo space, each vehicle can carry about 1000 kilograms of mail items, perform 50 short haul transportation tasks per day, and transport over 7000 items altogether. By substituting unmanned vehicles for drivers within mail centers, human resources can be reallocated to trunk line transportation, which is expected to save nearly one million yuan (about 140,000 US dollars) in outsourcing long-haul truck drivers every year, and significantly improve the timeliness of mail transportation.

In the next step, Jiangsu Postal Branch plans to continually optimize the model and technology of the vehicle, and explore expanding the application scenarios of unmanned vehicles from intra-premises transportation to intra-city transportation, aiming to realize innovative applications in more fields.
