Hanong Duoji: Grassland messenger along the Long March mail route
| China Post |2024-10-18

Hanong Duoji, CPC member, is a rural mail carrier in Zoige Postal Branch in Sichuan. Born in a village in Zoige county of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture in 1984, Hanong Duoji started to become a rural mail carrier just like his father at the age of 23 in 2007.

Of the 13 townships and towns in Zoige county of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture, Sichuan, only Tangke town connects the trunk mail route. The other 12 townships and towns are strung together by three rural mail routes with an average altitude of about 3,500 meters, and a round trip of 1,080 kilometers. One of the three routes, the most treacherous one, is known as the Long March mail route, as historic sites of the Long March of the Chinese Red Army can be found everywhere along the route. This route stretches through pastures and forests, with a total length of 216 kilometers. In winter, the route is covered thick ice and snow, while in rainy season it is frequently affected by natural disasters like falling rocks, landslides and mudslides. Hanong Duoji took the initiative to assume the delivery task on this mail route. In the past 17 years, he has safely driven a mail van on this dangerous route all by himself for more than 400,000 kilometers, and delivered more than five million pieces of mail accurately to their recipients, without any mistakes or losses. He is, therefore, hailed as the “grassland messenger” on the Long March mail route of the new era.

Hanong Duoji, also engaging in rural express delivery now, has successively been awarded the National May 1 Labor Medal, and honors such as top 10 express stars in Sichuan province, outstanding courier by China Express Association, model worker in Sichuan province, and national model worker in the postal sector.
