Chemi Dorjee, Tibetan, CPC member and deputy to the 20th CPC National Congress, is a long-haul mail truck driver and leader of the drivers and escorts team of Sichuan Garze Postal Branch.
In 1989, Chemi Dorjee started working in Dege Posts and Telecommunications Office, and was transferred to Garze Post Office due to his driving and auto repair skills, driving mail truck along the mail route from Garze to Dege. This mail route starts from Kangding, the capital of Garze Tibetan autonomous prefecture, passes through the three counties of Daofu, Luhuo and Garze, and finally arrives at Dege county, with a round-trip distance of 1,208 kilometers and an average altitude of more than 3,500 meters along the route, which is therefore extremely treacherous. This route passes over the 4200-meter Zheduo Mountain, winding through many bends dangerously and spiraling towards the top of the mountain. Over Zheduo Mountain, there comes Que’er Mountain, the most dangerous section along the Sichuan-Xizang Highway. The highway on the mountain is built on cliffs, narrow, snowy, and with sharp bends. It is covered with ice and snow for more than two-thirds of a year. The mountain pass is 5050 meters above sea level, and the narrowest part is less than 4 meters, allowing only one large truck to pass slowly. Chemi Dorjee has driven his mail trucks along such route for 30 years. Over the past 30 years, he has made more than 6,000 round-trips between Dege and Garze, covering over 1.4 million kilometers, equivalent to 35 trips around the Earth’s equator, without a single error in confidential communications.
Chemi Dorjee has successively been awarded the National May 1 Labor Medal, and honors like Role Model of the Times, Figure Touching China in the Year 2018, national ethical role model for working hard and making great contributions, the most outstanding contributor, and the national role model for ethnic unity and progress, etc.
