On January 1, the new intra-city business system was officially launched on the new-generation mailing platform, and began its pilot application in postal branches of Guangdong, Henan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Anhui and Jiangsu. The standout feature of this system lies in its full support for emerging business modes such as intra-city instant delivery service and community group buying. Additionally, it has optimized the EMS services for court documents and SIM cards, facilitating new business practices like consolidated charge by case for court document delivery and collect on activation for the delivery of SIM cards.
In recent years, the intra-city instant delivery business has witnessed rapid growth, with 43 billion orders fulfilled in 2023 and approximately 48 billion orders in 2024. Postal branches in Chongqing, Guizhou, Shandong and other provinces took the lead in the growing market. They have targeted niche segments like supermarkets and campus food delivery to tap into the potential of the intra-city business and drive rapid growth in the revenue of EMS services. However, as a new express service, the intra-city instant delivery business differs significantly from traditional parcel, express and logistics business in such aspects as networking, operation process, time limit and pricing, therefore unable to use the functions of the existing information system. To address this challenge, China Post Group Corporation Limited established a project team, who, drawing on the operation modes of the intra-city delivery business in the industry, quickly built a subsystem within the new-generation mailing platform, a suite of operational and management tools for intra-city instant delivery that meet market demands and bear postal characteristics. This intra-city business system includes not only functions in full-process operations from customer placing orders, placing orders in bulk, courier taking orders, to pick-up and sign-off, but also sophisticated financial management functions such as charging, clearing and settlement, to enable the intra-city instant delivery business to grow faster and better.
