Shaanxi Postal Branch deploys unmanned vehicles in four cities for Spring Festival delivery service
|China Post News|2025-02-08

In order to further improve the efficiency of operations and transportation, supplement delivery capacity, and reduce operating costs, Shaanxi Postal Branch has deployed a number of intelligent unmanned vehicles (see photo, above) in Xi’an, Yulin, Ankang, and Baoji to provide delivery services for customers during the Spring Festival.

The vehicles are approximately 3.6 meters long, 1.5 meters wide, 2.1 meters high, with a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and a range of 180 kilometers on a full charge. With a volume of five cubic meters, the compartment of such vehicles can carry up to 1,000 kilograms of mail. Additionally, these vehicles bear the characteristics of unmanned driving, automatic recognition of delivery routes, proactive avoidance of pedestrians, identification of traffic lights, and flexible response to various road conditions.

One vehicle serves more than a dozen delivery points, running four to five trips a day and carrying around 300 pieces of mail each trip. Charged once a day, it can deliver over 1200 pieces of mail, which is equivalent to the workload of two to three postmen. The unmanned delivery vehicles are also very easy to operate. Staff members can open the compartment by scanning the QR code with a mobile app to load and unload the mail items.

With the application of the unmanned vehicles to the Spring Festival delivery market in four cities, Shaanxi Postal Branch has effectively increased the delivery frequency in urban areas, improved delivery efficiency, and helped reduce delivery costs and improve efficiency in the mail transit process, thereby marking an important exploration of promoting postal enterprises to transform their labor-intensive operations into intelligent, less labor-dependent, and automated operations.
