Recently, Xinjiang Postal Branch has greatly enlarged the coverage of its international mail delivery service and shortened transportation time through continuous expansion of international highway and air mail routes. Its international air mail routes enable same-day dispatch and next-day delivery of mail bound for the five Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan. After active communication with KazPost, its highway mail route can ensure a shipping frequency of two truckloads per week. In the first quarter of this year, Urumqi Office of Exchange dispatched 1.5 million international mail items with a weight of 162 tonnes, its mail volume increasing by 151 percent year-on-year.
As the core hub and distribution center of the inbound and outbound international mail in Xinjiang, Urumqi Office of Exchange undertakes the transit and distribution as well as customs inspection of inbound and outbound international mail in the whole region. The office of exchange is equipped with an automated sorting line and intelligent inspection and information-based systems, where the automated sorting line can sort 9,000-10,000 light and small items per hour, with a daily processing volume of 120,000 mail items. Currently, the office of exchange is able to conduct information-based and automated processing of inbound and outbound international mail, with its functions covering customs declaration, mail sorting, customs inspection and so on. Hence, it has greatly satisfied the sorting demands of outbound mail destined for the five Central Asian countries, Russia and sixteen European countries.
Furthermore, Urumqi Office of Exchange works closely with Urumqi Diwopu International Airport Customs to optimize surveillance sites, check information of mailbags, streamline customs declaration and offer 24/7 customs clearance booking service, thus ensuring the efficient clearance of international mail. In the first quarter, Urumqi Diwopu International Airport Customs exercised control over 444,900 inbound and outbound mail items declared locally, with a year-on-year increase of 241.93 percent. It also exercised control over 907,700 outbound mail items transited from other provinces, increasing by 241.23 percent year-on-year.
