China Post consolidated shipping forges new path for cross-border e-commerce
|China Post News|2025-10-31

The project of consolidated shipping service is an innovative project in cross-border logistics China Post has developed to implement China’s dual circulation strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative and respond to the strategic orientation of facilitating China-made products going global and ensuring independent and controllable international supply chains. Since its official operation in July 2024, the project has centered on consolidated shipping, and provided overseas Chinese, international consumers, cross-border entrepreneurs and major domestic e-commerce platforms with one-stop consolidated shipping services featuring multi-platform cargo consolidation, multi-warehouse operations, multi-package shipment, multi-channel mailing and multi-country distribution.

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, China’s import and export scale of cross-border e-commerce reached 1.32 trillion yuan (about 185.33 billion US dollars) in the first half of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 5.7 percent, maintaining steady growth. Overseas consumers, especially overseas Chinese and Chinese overseas students are accustomed to shopping from Chinese e-commerce platforms, where the purchases they make cover daily necessities, apparel, 3C electronics and household items. Their cross-border shopping, characterized by diverse categories, small amount and high frequency, has spurred demand for more flexible and comprehensive logistics solutions.

China Post consolidated shipping is precisely a specialized platform China Post has developed to adapt to the trends in cross-border e-commerce consolidated shipping business. After overseas consumers place orders on Chinese e-commerce platforms, packages are first sent to China Post’s domestic consolidation warehouses. In the warehouses, the packages will undergo verification, temporary storage, and inventory management. They will then be unpacked, combined into multi-package shipments, and repacked for weight reduction based on the recipients’ instructions. Finally, the consolidated packages are delivered to overseas consumers with domestic express plus international transportation as well as domestic warehousing plus value-added services. The whole process forms a model integrating front-end consolidated shipping, export customs declaration, international trunk line transportation, overseas customs clearance and multi-channel distribution.

The core of China Post consolidated shipping lies in combining packages into a single multi-package shipment, focusing on addressing such pain points faced by overseas Chinese and Chinese overseas students as high international postages, long logistics cycle, inability to combine parcels and difficulties in returns. Through in-depth cooperation and system connection with leading e-commerce platforms like Pinduoduo and Alibaba Group’s platforms, China Post has established an efficient, reliable and customized international consolidated shipping service system, which enables full-process visibility from order placement to delivery and provides professional Chinese-language customer support, thus significantly optimizing the cross-border shopping experience.

The strategic cooperation China Post reached with Pinduoduo in June 2024 marked a significant milestone in its platform-based consolidated shipping service. Meeting challenges head-on, China Post has enhanced joint marketing, refined operations, upgraded customer service systems, enabled end-to-end quality monitoring and improved packaging, thereby gaining customer recognition. With these efforts, China Post has become the official designated consolidated shipping service provider for Pinduoduo in the Japanese and South Korean markets. It has also launched exclusive offers for South Korean users. The “embedded logistics solutions” provided by China Post consolidated shipping service not only serve consumers but also support sellers on platforms in their standardized cross-border fulfillment, reflecting its market positioning of serving the e-commerce ecosystem.

China Post has actively recommended its consolidated shipping practice to the Universal Postal Union (hereinafter referred to as UPU), which has currently been included as a new product research project of the EMS Cooperative Board. The member of the EMS Cooperative Board from China Post is leading a working team from 15 countries to design UPU EMS products centered on the consolidated shipping model, with a plan for full launch in 2026.
