The “Kunyu” container operating system independently developed by China Post was recently granted the 2025 openEuler Pioneer Award for its outstanding performance in independent technological innovation, ecosystem integration and commercial application. The award was jointly selected by China Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team and the OpenAtom Foundation openEuler community, aiming to recognize groundbreaking applications in emerging industries and fields.

The “Kunyu” system — named after the ancient Chinese term for “the Earth”, which carries everything on it like a huge carriage, to symbolize the robustness, reliability and inclusion of the system — provides a unified, stable and secure underpinning for China Post’s digital transformation. Adopting a minimalist design philosophy, the system reduces the number of files by 40.4 percent and cuts the mirrored volume by 20 percent, significantly minimizing the attack surface and improving boot efficiency. Additionally, it integrates capabilities such as automated building, security scanning, compliance inspection and digital signature, to ensure that the operating system images are secure upon release. This award is not only a high recognition of the technical value and practical results of the “Kunyu” container operating system, but also marks a solid step forward China Post has taken in building an independently-developed and controllable cloud native infrastructure.
