Recently, a truck loaded with over 90,000 cross-border e-commerce parcels departed smoothly from Dongguan Office of Exchange in Guangdong province. It travelled a long distance via highways to Baktu Port in Tacheng, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and headed directly for Kazan, Russia after completing outbound customs supervision formalities. This marked the official opening of the Dongguan-Tacheng-Kazan (Russia) cross-border e-commerce export route.

As a pivotal advanced manufacturing city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Dongguan boasts sources of goods for cross-border e-commerce covering 3C accessories, home and cultural creative products as well as daily necessities. And Russian e-commerce platforms like Ozon have seen continuously rising demand for small commodities made in Dongguan. Previously, businesses in Dongguan used to dispatch their Russia-bound commodities via maritime transport, China-Europe Railway Express or eastern land ports, which brought on multiple pain points, including long transportation time, port congestion during peak seasons, repeated customs declarations due to multi-segment transshipment, and relatively high overall logistics costs. To address the pain points, Dongguan Customs under Huangpu Customs District joined hands with Dongguan Office of Exchange and developed this new route, opening a brand-new logistics channel for cross-border e-commerce exporters in Dongguan. On this route, vehicles are subject to customs transit supervision. Businesses may complete customs formalities for their exports in one go at the Customs office of departure. After the Customs seals are affixed, the export goods under Customs transit are dispatched to the border port, where the Customs conduct supervision and release for export.

The inaugural truck carried more than 90,000 cross-border e-commerce parcels, all of which were competitive light industrial products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including phone cases, remote control covers, fidget toys for children, car decals and stickers, creative fridge magnets and 3C peripherals, which precisely catered to local online retail in Russia. Relying on the mature Russia-bound parcel, express and logistics network of Tacheng Office of Exchange, the commodities were transported directly to the local sorting center in Kazan, where they would be distributed to major cities in western Russia. With this route, the end-to-end transit time has been cut by over 10 days compared with traditional maritime transport, while the stability of delivery has been significantly enhanced compared with the congested routes via the popular eastern land ports.
