The 7th Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao High-level Joint Postal Meeting was held in Kunming, Yunnan province, on August 25. Guo Dajin, vice-governor of Yunnan province, Zhao Chongjiu, director general of the State Post Bureau, Liu Aili, chairman of China Post Group Corporation Limited, Ms Tai Shuk-yiu, postmaster general of Hongkong Post, and Lao Lan Wa, acting director of Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT Macao), attended and addressed the meeting.
Guo Dajin stated, Yunnan is accelerating its development into a center with radiation effects for South and Southeast Asia, and is going all out to build a comprehensive modern transportation system. Kunming, functioning as a regional international postal and express hub, is continuously advancing the extension of express services to villages and expanding opening-up channels. And the postal industry has become an important force for stabilizing logistics, benefiting people’s livelihoods, boosting industries, promoting opening-up and increasing incomes in Yunnan.
Zhao Chongjiu called on postal services in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR to jointly safeguard the sound situation of integrated development, jointly ensure stable and smooth functioning of industrial and supply chains, jointly promote intelligent and green transformation of the industry, and jointly boost the coordinated development of the universal and inclusive services.
Liu Aili stated, China Post will focus on building integrated hub clusters to consolidate the hardware foundation and strategic fulcrum for the deeply coordinated development of postal services in these three regions. It will foster integrated advantages in customs clearance at gateways to comprehensively improve customs clearance efficiency and distribution capacity of cross-border mail in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the Great Bay Area). China Post will also innovate and upgrade its cross-border service system to precisely serve cross-border commerce and foreign trade industries in the Greater Bay Area. Moreover, it will help deepen people-to-people exchanges and integration of public services to foster closer bonds and emotional affinity among people in the three regions.
According to Ms Tai Shuk-yiu, Hongkong Post will integrate into and serve the national development landscape from three dimensions. Firstly, it will upgrade its infrastructure to strengthen digital and intelligent foundation. Secondly, it will tap into complementarity among postal services in the three regions to open up new horizons for cross-border e-commerce services. Thirdly, it will actively develop diverse services, launch innovative thematic stamps and distinctive cultural products, and explore joint stamp printing and product development, so as to collectively tell the stories of the nation and the Greater Bay Area well.
Lao Lan Wa stated, on the one hand, CTT Macao will continue to leverage its unique role as a service platform for commercial and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries to deepen exchanges and cooperation with international communication organizations and those among Portuguese-speaking countries. On the other hand, it will actively integrate into the development of the Greater Bay Area, and continuously optimize mail handling processes and customs clearance procedures, striving to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of regional mail services.
At the closing ceremony, Zhao Chongjiu announced seven consensus points reached at the meeting, and all participating parties jointly signed the outcome document.
