On September 15, the maiden voyage ceremony for the direct maritime route from Shanghai to Chancay Port in Peru was held at the Phase I terminal of Yangshan Port of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co Ltd. The first shipment, consisting of one 20-foot container of cross-border e-commerce goods and consolidated mail items, marked that Shanghai Postal Branch had successful launched a new direct maritime route to South America.
Chancay Port in Peru is a flagship Belt and Road Initiative project jointly built by China and Peru. The international business company of Shanghai Postal Branch efficiently coordinated resources from shipping carriers, terminals, ports and other relevant parties, removed bottlenecks in workflows and bridged gaps in business links to ensure the smooth launch of the route.
Previously, international mail and cross-border e-commerce parcels shipped from Shanghai to Peru and other Latin American countries mainly relied on air transport, facing problems such as lengthy transit time, high costs and difficulties in tracking and management. The voyage duration on this maritime route lasts approximately 28 days. Compared with the transit routes via third countries, this route cuts shipping time by more than 20 days and substantially reduces shipping costs. With this route, Shanghai Postal Branch can provide its cross-border clients with a cost-effective, high-capacity and regular export logistics solution.
