| China Post |2026-05-13

On May 8, Wuxi Office of Exchange (Mail Unit) held a launch ceremony for its first shipment of mail items. That day, the plastic egg racks sent to Russia by Wuxi Jijige Trading Service Co Ltd successfully completed customs clearance and were loaded for dispatch. This marks the official operation of Wuxi Office of Exchange, and the start of a new stage when the international mail and cross-border e-commerce logistics in Wuxi and the Yangtze River Delta region will enjoy local direct processing, efficient customs clearance and next-day direct dispatch.

As a core project of Wuxi gateway construction and a key node of the postal and logistics hub in the Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi Office of Exchange (Mail Unit) is positioned as a world-class and domestically leading comprehensive international logistics gateway with integrated functions to empower industries. It boasts the most complete range of customs clearance modes and the strongest processing capacity in Wuxi, with integrated customs clearance and supervision for international mail, cross-border e-commerce and commercial express items, and combined functions of handling outbound EMS items and express parcels, distributing ordinary mail and integrating warehousing and distribution in the Yangtze River Delta. The project is equipped with a complete set of smart supervision equipment, including CT machine, X-ray machine, inspection and sorting line, smart checkpoint system, multisite-in-one system and smart logistics supervision system, providing solid hardware support for the development of the local export-oriented economy and cross-border logistics industry. The first outbound shipment consisted of 3D-printed plastic egg racks, which are much favored in the Russian market, with peak daily sales reaching 5,000 orders. At the customs supervision site of the office of exchange, the mail items went through pre-X-ray screening, nuclear radiation detection and high-precision CT inspection in sequence. After the on-site verification of their consistency with the declared information by the Customs and postal staff, the items were released promptly, thus enabling local inspection, local release and same-day completion of all procedures.

As is reported, after the official operation of the office of exchange, the international mail items there can be inspected and released at the same site and on the same day. Relying on mail trucks of the Yangtze River Delta mail center, these items can be dispatched directly to major ports nationwide early next morning. As a result, the overall transportation time will be shortened by two days, the efficiency of parcel, express and logistics services will be significantly improved, and the enterprises’ cross-border logistics costs will be reduced.

Next, Wuxi Office of Exchange will deepen coordination with the Customs, commerce, airport and other authorities to explore the Single E-lock Scheme, Wuxi-Hongkong direct express and other innovative customs clearance modes, and strive to build itself into a modern international logistics hub radiating the Yangtze River Delta region and connecting the world, thereby contributing postal strength to building Wuxi into a logistics hub demonstration city , supporting the construction of a key hub of the Belt and Road Initiative and promoting high-quality development of the export-oriented economy.
