  • The XXI INCOSAIFounded in 1953, the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) operates as an umbrella organization for the community of supreme audit institutions (SAI) in countries that belong to the United Nations (UN) and its specialized agencies. INTOSAI is the recognized international body in the field of external public audit with wide influence and high prestige, and currently has 191 Full Members and 4 Associate Members. The International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI) is the INTOSAI organ of the highest authority and is held once every three years. The XXI INCOSAI is hosted by the National Audit Office of China, in the National Convention Center in Beijing, China from October 21 to 26, 2013. The themes of the XXI INCOSAI are “National Audit and National Governance” and “The Role of Supreme Audit Institutions on Safeguarding Long-Term Sustainability of Finance Policies”.

  • Centennial Anniversary of the Birth of C...Xi Zhongxun (1913-2002), an ethnic Han native of Fuping, Shaanxi Province, participated in revolution in May 1926 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) as a member of the Communist Youth League of China in April 1928. He was an outstanding member of the CPC, a great Communist, a preeminent proletarian revolutionary, an excellent political work leader of the Chinese army, and one of the main founders and leaders of the revolutionary base in the Shaanxi-Gansu border area. After the People’s Republic of China was founded in 1949, Xi Zhongxun successively served as secretary-general of the Government Administration Council (later State Council), vice premier and secretary-general of the State Council, first secretary of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, secretary of the Secretariat of the 11th CPC Central Committee, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Secretariat of the 12th CPC Central Committee, and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the 5th and 7th National People’s Congress.

  • The 10th China Art Festival...China Art Festival is the biggest, top-class, and most influential national art event in China. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the people’s government of the host province, autonomous region, or municipality, it is held every three years. The 10th China Art Festival, held in Shandong from October 11 to 26, 2013, with the principle of “a gala of art, a festival of the people,” presented a variety of activities in eight categories including Wenhua Prize selection, Qunxing Prize selection, art exhibitions, and trade fair for theatrical products. Wenhua Prize is the highest government honor for professional performance art in China, and Qunxing Prize is China’s highest form of recognition in social and cultural art.

  • Hybrid RiceHybrid rice is any genealogy of rice displaying heterosis produced by cross-breeding two rice varieties that are genetically different but mutually complementary in advantages. In 1964, Yuan Longping, a Chinese agriculturalist hailed as “Father of Hybrid Rice,” led a team and pioneered in China in the research and development of a better rice breed. In the 1970s, a type of hybrid rice was successfully developed and introduced into extensive cultivation. This marked a major breakthrough in rice breeding technology, significantly increased rice production, and has played an important role in solving the grain shortage problem in China and even the world. At the beginning of the 1990s, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recommended the promotion of hybrid rice as a priority strategic measure to solve the problem of food shortage in developing countries. So far, more than 40 countries have been involved in the introduction, research, and promotion of hybrid rice.

  • The 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Co...Mao Zedong (1893-1976) was from Xiangtan, Hunan. He was a great Marxist, proletarian revolutionary, strategist and theorist. Mao was the main founder of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Republic of China. He was the great leader of all ethnic groups of China, a great patriot and national hero of China in modern history, and a great leader who led the Chinese people to completely change their destiny and enabled the nation to take on an entirely new look.

  • The 120th Anniversary of Wuhan Universit...Wuhan University, embracing the scenic Luojia Hill on the banks of East Lake in Wuhan, Hubei Province, is a comprehensive and key national university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education. It is also one of the universities supported by national “985 Project” and “211 Project.” The history of Wuhan University can be traced back to Ziqiang Institute, which was founded in 1893 by Zhang Zhidong, the then governor of Hubei and Hunan provinces in the late Qing Dynasty. In its early stage of development, the institute changed its name several times before it was officially named National Wuhan University in 1928. In August 2000, the school merged with Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, and Hubei Medical University to form the new Wuhan University, which offers degrees in 11 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and management.

  • Writers of Ancient China (III)...Literary style in feudal China varied from dynasty to dynasty. Cifu, or fu, (sentimental or descriptive composition, often rhymed) was the most representative literary form of the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.). The four figures shown on this set of stamps are prominent cifu writers of the Han. Jia Yi (200-168 B.C.) was a thinker and writer of the Western Han Dynasty, famous for his cifu works “The Faults of Qin” and “On the Owl.” Sima Xiangru (about 179-118 B.C.), style name Changqing, was a celebrated author of the Western Han, whose “Ode to Zixu” and “Ode to Shanglin Garden” are considered the greatest representatives of the Han literature. Yang Xiong (53 B.C.-18 A.D.), style name Ziyun, was particularly good at imitation, and his famous works include “Ode to Sweet Spring” and “Ode to Hunting.” Ban Gu (32-92 A.D.), style name Mengjian, a great historian and writer of the Eastern Han, compiled the Book of Han, China’s first written document of dynastic histories, and his “Ode to the Two Capitals” is hailed as the best among the ancient literary works devoted to the capitals.

  • Table Tennis (Jointly Issued by China an...Table tennis originated from the UK as a derivative of tennis and therefore was so named.   • Nanhua TempleNanhua Temple is situated in the Qujiang District of Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. With a history dating back to 502, the first year of the Tianjian era of Emperor Wu of the Liang during the Southern Dynasties, it used to be where Master Huineng (638-713), the Sixth Patriarch of Zen (Chan) Buddhism, gave dharma lectures to promote the religion, thus reputed as the ancestral home of the Southern School of Zen. Originally known as Baolin Temple, the Buddhist sanctuary was renamed Nanhua Zen Temple in 968 by Emperor Taizu (927-976) of the Song Dynasty. Caoxi Gate, the original entrance to the temple, was first built as a brick-and-wood structure and later reconstructed with reinforced concrete. It features double eaves and a gable-and-hip roof covered by green glazed tiles. Two huge sculptures of door gods stand in front of the gate, guarding the temple in an awe-inspiring manner.

  • Yuyuan GardenYangtze River (usually referred to as Jiangnan). Built in 1559, the 38th year of Jiajing Reign of Ming Dynasty, Yuyuan Garden is originally designed for its owner—Pan Yunduan’s aging father to enjoy his old age. The name of Yuyuan Garden is associated with the homophonic sound of “yu (satisfying) the aging parents”. Situated at the south of the garden gate, Nine-Zigzag Bridge is characterized by its winding paths and extraordinary elegance, along with a length of 18 meters and a width of 2 meters. Nine-Zigzag Bridge and Mid-Lake Pavilion are both recognized as the symbols of Shanghai. Renowned as the essence of Yuyuan Garden, Grand Rockery is towering in the west of the garden. With an estimated height of 14 meters, Grand Rockery is also known as a typical representation of yellowstone rockery within Jiangnan garden landscapes. Grand Rockery is composed of range upon range of mountains, thus demonstrating a magnificent momentum in the overall scale. When you climb the mountains and look around, you will feel like being all out in high mountains and lofty hills.
