    Filial piety is a deeply held traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. Many filial stories have been passed on for generations and continue to inspire people today.

    Carrying Rice More Than 100 Li for Parents:

    Confucius's disciple Zi Lu was born to the Jung family during the Zhou Dynasty (B.C.1046—B.C. 256). His given name was You and he was a most filial, devoted son. His family was poor and the boy had to dig wild greens and roots in the fields to feed himself. Because he wished his parents to have adequate suitable food, he had to travel long distances from his poverty-stricken area, where so many families were forced to forage for their meals, to find a wage-paying job.

    He Tasted His Mother's Medicine:

    Liu Heng(B.C.203—B.C.157), Emperor Wen of Han,was known for his filial piety to his mother, Empress?Dowager?Bo. When she was ill, he personally took care of her and paid careful attention to her needs. When medicine was given to her, he insisted on tasting it first to ensure that it was safe for her to consume.

    Cai Wenji Rehabilitates Her Father's Works:

    Cai Wenji, also known as Cai Yan, was a Han Dynasty (B.C.202—A.D.220) poet and composer. Cai Wenji's father Cai Yong was an established writer, but his works were lost in the ravages of war. She spent part of her life as a prisoner of the Xiongnu people until the new Han Chancellor Cao Cao paid a heavy sum to ransom her in 207. At Cao Cao's request, Cai Wenji was able to recite from memory up to 400 of her father's 4,000 lost works.

    Gu Kaizhi Portrays His Mother:

    Gu Kaizhi was one of the earliest multi-faceted artists in China’s Eastern Jin Dynasty (A.D.317-A.D.420). Missing his dead mother when young, Gu aspired to paint a portrait of her. After his unremitting effort, the portrait looks like the very image of his mother. Gu probably set new standards for figure painting, becoming an eccentric courtier who is most famous as a painter of portraits and subjects as well as a poet.

  • Celebrating the 120th Anniversary of Sic...2016-28

    The original Sichuan University was one of the earliest institutions of higher education in China, with a history dating back to the Sichuan Zhong-Xi Xuetang (Sichuan Chinese and Western School) established in 1896. Today's Sichuan University is the result of a merger of three national universities. In 1994, the original Sichuan University merged with the Chengdu University of Science and Technology, a national university under the Ministry of Education. The merged university was briefly known by the name Sichuan Union University. In 2000, Sichuan University merged with West China University of Medical Science, a university under the State Ministry of Health, and became the new Sichuan University.

    Over the long course of its schooling, it has accumulated rich cultural heritage, formed a solid educational foundation and created the university spirit of "Diligence, Rigorous, Realistic and Innovation". 

  • 39th ISO General Assembly...2016-27

    The 39th General ISO Assembly will be held in Beijing from September 10 to 14.

    The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. Founded in 1947, the organization promotes worldwide proprietary, industrial and commercial standards.

    Members meet annually at a General Assembly to discuss ISO's strategic objectives.

    It is the second meeting of the General Assembly held in China.

    Themed "Promoting World Connectivity", the assembly aims to strengthen international standards, give full play to cooperative norms in the leading role of global governance for the standards and promote the harmonious development of the economy, society and environment.

  • 2016 G20 Hangzhou Summit...2016-25

    The 11th G20 Summit was held in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province from September 4-5. It was the first time that China hosted a G20 summit.

    Themed "Constructing a world economy full of innovation and vitality", the summit had four key topics: creative growth, efficient global economic and financial governance, international trade and investment, and inclusive and linked development.

    As host of the summit, China is working with other G20 members to promote the world economy to a new round of growth and prosperity.

    The G20 Hangzhou Summit logo was a bridge consisting of 20 lines, suggesting that the G20 has become a bridge for international cooperation, global economic growth and a future-oriented, win-win strategy.

  • Tang Monk Titled Xuanzang...2016-24

    Born in Luoyang City of central China's Henan Province during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 A.D.), the monk named Xuanzang was a scholar, traveler, Buddhist translator, founder of the Law Phase Buddhist School and honored as a Tripitaka Dharma Master.

    After becoming a monk at age 13, he found opinions in Buddhist scriptures were divergent as he pursued his studies. So Xuanzang determined he would to travel west for knowledge.

    He went west by Liangzhou of northwest China's Gansu Province in the Tang Zhenguan years (627-629 A.D.) and arrived in India. Xuanzang continued to study other places in India after learning at Nalanda Temple, center of Indian Buddhism, where he had debates with local scholars and won a reputation.

    Returning to Changgan city, capital of Tang Dynasty in the 19th Zhenguan year (645 A.D.), Xuanzang translated 1,330 volumes of scripture and theory, which had great influence on the development of China's Buddhism.

    His journal recording his experiences in the west, Buddhist Records of the Western World -- or the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra and Prajnaparamita -- were passed on to later generations.

  • Maritime Silk Road2016-26

    More than 2,000 years ago, hard-working and brave people on the continents of Asia and Europe explored a number of passageways for cultural exchange and trade, which were referred to as the "Silk Road" by later generations.

    Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed major initiatives including development of the Silk Road Economic Zone and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. With the aim of communicating with neighboring countries on policies, trade, finance and facilities, the plans would create a better future for economic and social development in these counties. 

    Today, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road not only continues ancient prosperous maritime cooperation but also makes it a road to promote common development, achieve win-win cooperation, and strengthen mutual trust, communication and friendship.

  • The Year of Monkey2016-1

    Monkeys are loved by people for their agility and flexibility. The monkey ranks ninth in the Chinese zodiac and means longevity. They are usually chosen as auspicious elements in New Year paintings and paper cuts. The set includes two stamp styles. A lively monkey is grasping a stick with a peach in the other hand, smiling. For the other layout, a female monkey is hugging her two orange cubs, depicting the joy of a reunited family.
