China Post issued a set of two commemorative stamped postcards featuring the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) with a denomination of 0.8 yuan (0.1152 U.S. dollars) on October 16, 2018.

2018 marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the CAEP. The academy is the only nuclear weapon research and production unit in China listed separately in the national scientific research program. It is a comprehensive research institute that focuses on the development of advanced science and technology in national defense, and integrates theory, experiment, design and production in this aspect.

Its research areas include physics, mechanics and mathematics, chemistry and materials, information science and electronic engineering. Over the past 60 years, the academy has persisted in promoting the sustainable development of advanced weapons as well as science and technology in national defense, ensuring that China’s strategic deterrent forces are always safe, reliable and effective. It has made great contributions to the cause of national defense and the development of science and technology in China.

The main diagram of the first stamped postcard features the logo of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the CAEP, and carries the motto of the academy. The appended drawing depicts a monument of the nuclear weapons research base and outlines its bases in Beijing, Qinghai, and Sichuan with blue-green ribbon, reflecting the 60-year historical changes.

The main diagram of the second stamped postcard features the logo of the CAEP, and carries the motto of the academy. The appended drawing depicts the spring thunder[t1]  sculpture, and outlines the Mianyang office in Sichuan Province and the Beijing office of the CAEP with blue-green ribbon, showing the brilliant achievements of the CAEP.

This set of stamped postcard was designed by Yu Xue and Shi Yuan, and was printed by the Beijing Stamp Printing House.
