China Post is to issue a commemorative stamp entitled COP15 (the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity), 1 piece in a set, on October 11, 2021. The denomination of the stamp is 1.2 yuan, and the planned circulation is to be 7 million sets.

The Convention on Biological Diversity, adopted at the UN Conference on the Environment and Development in 1992, has become one of the most influential conventions on international environment in the course of the UN environment and development, and has played an important role in promoting the protection, sustainable exploitation and benefit-sharing of global biodiversity. The first phase of COP15 will take place in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from October 11 to 15. The conference is of great importance to promote Xi Jinping thought on eco-civilization, demonstrate China’s achievements on ecological conservation and engage deeply in global ecological and environmental governance.

Designed by Xia Jingqiu, the stamp takes the logo of the conference and its auxiliary graph as the main body. The waterdrop-shaped perforations used in stamp design for the first time highlight the notion that water is the source of life and all creatures, which echoes the design of the COP15 logo. The whole picture is ingenious in its design and distinct in its theme.

The set of stamp, printed through the technology of offset intaglio, is a perfect combination of exquisite craft and concise design. First, the stamp is printed via the technique of one offset and engraving plate for two colors, the vertically engraved texture making the COP15 logo more stereoscopic. Second, the golden sparry turquoise engraving ink, used for the first time, blinks under the sunshine. Third, the red, blue and white fluorescence integrates more thematic content into the picture of the stamp. Fourth, the waterdrop-shaped perforations further highlight the theme of the stamp.

This set of stamp will be on sale for six months at the designated outlets of China Post, philatelic mall online, the app of China Post, the official WeChat account of China Post Group, and WeChat mini programs like Philatelic WeChat mall and China Post mall. To present more information about the stamp, China Post will release the digital contents through the WeChat mini program “Encyclopedia of China Philately and Stamps”, where viewers can learn more about the stamp via its AR function.
