China Post is to issue a set of one commemorative stamp entitled The 120th Anniversary of Beijing Normal University. The denomination of the stamp is 1.2 yuan, and the planned circulation is 7.8 million sets. As a national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, Beijing Normal University (BNU) is a well-known university with its main characteristics of teacher education, educational science and basic disciplines in sciences and humanities. BNU grew out of the Education Department of Imperial University of Peking established in 1902. Later in 1908, it was named as Supreme Education School of Peking, and became independent. In 1923, its name changed to National Beijing Normal University, the first Normal University in China’s history. During the 10th Five-Year Plan period, it entered into “Project 985”, a national project to bring a handful of elite universities to international prominence. And in 2017, BNU was listed in the “world-class universities” of Class A. Designed by Yu Tong, the stamp takes the emblem of BNU as its main body, supplemented by elements such as the university motto “学为人师,行为世范” (Learn, so as to instruct others. Act, to serve as example to all.) as well as the main building of BNU. Besides, it takes fine circular lines around the emblem as the background, representing the transmission of the unceasing sound of muduo (the central image of the university emblem, which is a kind of bell used in ancient China and symbolizes the sound of teaching) in tune with the beat of the times. With the overall composition full and clear, the stamp highlights BNU’s spirit and mission, and fully demonstrates its profound historical heritage and vigorous atmosphere of the times. The stamp, using offset intaglio printing technology, is printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited. The stamp will be available for 6 months at the designated postal outlets, online mall of China Philately (https://jiyou.11185.cn), the mobile app of China Post, the WeChat Mall for philatelic products in the official WeChat account and the WeChat mini program of China Post Group. In order to present more information about the stamp, China Post will release its digital contents through the WeChat mini program “Encyclopedia of China Philately and Stamps”, where philatelists can learn more about the stamp via its AR function. |
