China Post is to issue a set of two commemorative stamps entitled Commemorating the Centennial of the Huangpu Military Academy on June 16, 2024. The denomination of the whole set is 2.40 yuan, and 6.65 million sets are planned to be circulated.
In 1924, with the help of the Communist Party of China, the Soviet Union and the Communist International, Sun Yat-sen founded the Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy in Guangzhou. The hundred-year history of the Huangpu Military Academy is a glorious history of pursuing national independence, survival of the country and patriotic revolution, witnessing the unremitting struggle of the Chinese people for national unity, national rejuvenation and continuous self-improvement. Since its establishment, the Huangpu Military Academy has been closely connected with the fate of the country and its people. Its faculty and students have withstood historical tests, and made positive contributions to promoting the Chinese revolution, construction and national unity, writing a brilliant chapter on the path toward China’s national rejuvenation. The Huangpu spirit of “patriotism and revolution” is still prevailing, and has become an important part of the Chinese culture and national spirit. This set of stamps features a balanced composition and layout with rich details, reflecting a profound sense of history while highlighting the vibe of the times. The pictures are concise, the theme prominent, and the style elegant. The main designs of the stamps are presented in the traditional way of monochrome engraving, which gives the pictures the sense of depth and layer. On the first stamp, deep blue engraving ink is used to indicate the profound cultural heritage and historical traditions, while the green fluorescence highlights the vitality of the ancient trees. On the second stamp, red engraving ink is used to convey patriotism, while the orange fluorescence makes the picture warmer and more solemn. The light beige background creates a retro atmosphere, reflecting the rich history and reinforcing the theme, thus showcasing the century-old history of the Huangpu Military Academy. The set of the stamps is designed by Xia Jingqiu, edited by Liu Jian, and printed with offset intaglio technology by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited. This set of stamps will be available for six months at designated postal outlets nationwide, online mall of China Philately (https://jiyou.11185.cn), the mobile app of China Post, the WeChat Mall for philatelic products in the official WeChat account and the WeChat mini program of China Post Group.
