China Post is to issue a set of one commemorative stamp entitled The 150th Anniversary of the Universal Postal Union on October 9, 2024. The design of the stamp is also named The 150th Anniversary of the Universal Postal Union. The denomination of the stamp is 1.20 yuan, and the planned circulation is six million sets.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established in 1874, and became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1948. The UPU aims to organize and improve international postal services, and facilitate international cooperation and development in this field. It promotes communication among people of all countries through the efficient operation of postal services, thereby achieving its lofty goal of boosting international cooperation in cultural, social and economic fields. China joined the UPU in 1914, and the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the UPU was restored in 1972. Since 1974, China has participated in all the UPU Congresses and has been elected as a member country of the Postal Operations Council during the Congresses. It has also been elected as a member country of the Council of Administration in all but two Congresses. China actively participates in various activities of the UPU, hosts several international symposiums, and makes special contributions to the UPU, helping countries affected by natural disasters to restore postal infrastructure and postal services as soon as possible.

The stamp takes the logo of the 150th anniversary of the UPU as the main picture, with a carrier pigeon composed of lines in the background indicating the far-reaching, global postal network and conveying the implication of “connecting and empowering people around the world”. The white border lines of the UPU logo and the number “150” on the left of the picture are printed with colorless fluorescent technology, giving a strong visual impact under fluorescent lights. The envelope image on the right is printed with koldfoil technology, and presents a color-changing effect through lamination, thus attracting viewers’ visual focus and balancing the rhythm of the overall picture. The whole stamp is rich in color and distinct in texture, and therefore bears a strong sense of modernity.

This set of stamp is designed by Jiang Wei, edited by Wen Wenya, and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited with offset printing (partial koldfoil) technology.

The set of stamp will be available for six months at designated postal outlets nationwide, online mall of China Philately (https://jiyou.11185.cn), the mobile app of China Post, the WeChat Mall for philatelic products in the official WeChat account and the WeChat mini program of China Post Group. To present more information about the stamp, China Post will release the digital contents through the WeChat mini program “Encyclopedia of China Philately and Stamps”, where philatelists can learn more about the stamp via its AR function.
