China Post is to issue a set of one commemorative stamp entitled Martyrs’ Day on September 30, 2024. The denomination of the whole set is 1.20 yuan, and the planned circulation is 6.25 million sets.
Since modern times, countless heroes have sacrificed their lives for national independence, people’s freedom and happiness, and the country’s prosperity and strength. The martyrs’ merits have been immortalized in history, and their spirit will be cherished forever. In 2014, the 10th session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress approved September 30 as Martyr’s Day, calling on the Chinese people to carry forward the martyrs’ spirit, pay tribute to their achievements, develop citizens’ patriotist and collectivist spirit as well as socialist moral integrity, cultivate and practice core socialist values, increase the cohesion of the Chinese nation, and boost the great spiritual strength to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. On September 30 every year, the country holds events to commemorate the martyrs. The stamp mainly features the Monument to the People’s Heroes, complete with the Chinese characters showing the important instructions of “looking up to heroes and honoring martyrs”, and elements such as white doves, mountains and sun rays in the background, expressing deep remembrance of and high tribute to the martyrs. Concise, simple and solemn, the whole design conveys the profound implication that the light of ideals will never die and the light of faith will never fade. The dual-color engraving technology and the picture design complement each other. The towering Monument to the People’s Heroes on the stamp is engraved in black, making the picture solemn and elegant. The Chinese characters on the stamp and the Monument to the People’s Heroes in the gutter strip engraved in gold not only set off the main picture of the stamp, but also enrich the overall effect of the sheet. The stamp was designed by Hao Ou and Yu Qiuyan, edited by Li Jinwei, and printed with offset intaglio technology by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited. The stamp will be available for six months at designated postal outlets nationwide, online mall of China Philately (https://jiyou.11185.cn), the mobile app of China Post, the WeChat Mall for philatelic products in the official WeChat account and the WeChat mini program of China Post Group. To present more information about the stamp, China Post will release the digital contents through the WeChat mini program “Encyclopedia of China Philately and Stamps”, where philatelists can learn more about the stamp via its AR function. |
